Poem: Torn

By Allison Stein

Words help me negotiate emotions and navigate challenges. I hope you enjoy the poem “Torn,” a tribute to anyone who has ever wondered where her heart belongs or why it beats.

Torn

Sixteen birthday candles
A crossroads
Two directions
One heart

Sixteen regrets
One heart
Wrestling with two wishes
Beating with two rhythms

Sixteen fears
One heart
Propelled by two promises
Driven by two dreams

Sixteen hopes
One heart
Split between two souls
Torn between two worlds
